I woke up from the entire building SHAKING.
They started raiding my house and arrested my dad.
The only thought that was going through my head was “Why are you taking my dad? He's the kindest and nicest person.”
They took him to 26 Federal Plaza to the courts on Wall Street.
Once I made it downtown I finally had a chance to talk to my dad and figure out what in the world was going on.
And he said,
“I was really busy working and building my business. Putting food on the table, dealing with employees, and the rest that comes with it.
And I just really relied on and trusted my accountant to give me the best guidance possible.
I thought they were filing my sales tax returns. I gave them everything they needed and asked for.
But they didn’t file my sales tax returns.”
So to the state, it looked like he was evading taxes…
Look, you rely on your accountant really to give you one thing - GUIDANCE.
All it would have taken is for his accountant to say “Hey Boris, by the way, if you don’t pay this you’re going to get in trouble!!”
But the problem was, his accountant didn’t CARE. He said he was certified when he wasn’t. And my dad paid for it for the rest of his life.
He ended up paying $1.5 million in restitution, and almost went to jail for 25 years.
Once he paid, he was deported. My family spent the past 14 years fighting for him to come back to the country. But unfortunately, he passed away 5 years ago.
He wanted nothing more than to kiss the ground here and live the American dream again.
But it was all ruined because of an incompetent accountant.
That’s why I decided to disrupt the accounting industry.
So this NEVER happens to another business owner again.
